Register or Check Your Registration
- Register to vote online at the Illinois State Board of Elections (you'll need an Illinois driver's license or state ID).
- Check your registration status & find your polling place.
- Illinois offers same-day / grace-period registration — you can register and vote at the same time during early voting and on Election Day at your designated location.
- You can also register in person at the Coles County Clerk's office.
Three Ways to Vote
- Vote by Mail — any Illinois voter may request a mail ballot, no excuse needed. Apply through the County Clerk or the state. Completed ballots can be mailed or dropped at the Clerk's office, 651 Jackson Ave, Room 122.
- Early Voting — vote early with no excuse, beginning up to 40 days before Election Day and running through the day before. The Coles County Clerk posts locations and hours before each election.
- Election Day — polls are open 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Vote at your assigned precinct polling place. If you're in line by 7:00 p.m., you have the right to vote.
What to Bring
Most registered Illinois voters do not need to show ID at the polls. You may be asked for ID if you're a first-time voter who registered by mail without verification, or if there's a question about your registration — a driver's license, state ID, or a current utility bill, bank statement, or paycheck showing your name and address all work.
